TOP CELEBRITY LIMITED EDITION FINE ART FLUFFART POP BY SUSAN OLSEN!

Susan Olsen's Pop Art Collection, "Fluffart"

While continuing her career in entertainment by serving as the Host and Talent on numerous radio talk shows and television, Susan Olsen also pursued another passion of hers: Pop Art. Susan's career in the art world began as a graphic artist; including being an instrumental designer - as well as participating in the marketing of - 'glow in the dark' Converse brand shoes; and ultimately becoming a Pop Culture Icon turned Pop Artist.

With her wit, talent, and unique outlook on life spawned from her diverse background and interests, Susan captures the humor in any situation. Most currently, Susan's highly sought after Pop Art body of work is a collection of Parodies: marrying Iconic and Pop Culture images with jars of Marshmallow Fluff. The collection of her current pieces Susan seamlessly deems "Fluffart". In the spirit of her beginnings as a child star, Susan Olsen's Pop Art brings that same smile, charm and smart wit that connects with the collectors of her art today in the same manner which her infamous portrayal of Cindy Brady on "The Brady Bunch" has always connected with others: So sweet, honest and funny, what is there not to love?

READ HOW POP ICON SUSAN OLSEN STARTED DOWN THE PATH OF POP ARTIST --- WHAT THE FLUFF?
It all started with Toontown. "My son began playing the only MMORPG (Massive multiplayer online role playing game) designed for children. My son was playing this cute Disney game and I thought it was good for his social skills. Then my manager told me that he was playing it with his son and he encouraged me to create a character for myself (so my gaming addiction is ALL HIS FAULT!)."
Toontown has a name generator and when picking the words that would form the name for my character, I decided to be a bit naughty.  I was thinking of how my manager and I were traveling quite a bit and every now and then the rumor that I had gotten into porn would surface. We would say  that I was "Just the fluffer" (I will not explain that word, there may be kids reading) So my character in Toontown became "Fluffy Pickleface" (you get the picture?) It seemed rather fitting to have a porn name in such a sweet children's game - I love contradictions.
I made some really good friends with other people in that game and they just called me "Fluff". A radio producer of mine told me about a marshmallow topping called “Fluff” I had never heard of it as it was not available on the West Coast. He brought me a jar and I really liked the look of it. Since "Fluff" had become my nickname, a photo of the jar became my profile picture in the gaming forums and on MySpace.
I had a blog on MySpace and thought of it as a magazine; I used  my graphic arts skills to design a new front page every month.  The jar of Fluff became my Alfred E Newman. I came up with a new piece of “Fluffart” for my front page each month. For a while, people on MySpace knew me only as "Fluff".
My friends and I continued to play games and moved on  to other games and eventually wound up in the black tar of MMORPGs: World of Warcraft. Tragedy struck when one of my online gaming friends who gave me the nickname “Fluff” died very suddenly. Two years later, his sister who was an even closer friend of mine was killed in a car accident. My Fluffart is a bit of an homage to Lou and Michele Pitl. I used to tell them that one day I would go to the "What the Fluff? Fest" and maybe show my Fluffart.

This year on September 24, 2011 I did it. The photos on this site are of me, my manager and Geri Reischl (who played Fake Jan in the Brady Bunch Variety Hour). Allee Willis (Song writer EXTRAORDINAIRE who wrote "September" the theme from "Friends" and "The Color Purple" just to name a few accomplishments)is also pictured and she is the divine inspiration that made me go ahead and make this the year that I said “What the Fluff? I'm going”.

I printed eleven of my Fluffart pieces and sent them to the Bloc 11 cafe where they were on display for the month of September. I sold giclee prints of the canvases while at the festival. (these things are available at the above link so that you can have Fluffart for yourself)

Over the years I have developed a real love for the actual product. While marshmallows are not necessarily my favorite thing in the food world, I love Fluff because it is so uniquely American. Fluff is honest, simple and American in a way that few things even can be these days.

It has only 4 ingredients (corn syrup, egg whites, sugar and vanilla) It has no chemicals or preservatives.

Fluff is made by a family run company, Durkee Mower, in Lynn Massachusetts. It is made in small batches so that it has "A different mouth feel".

In these times when corporations are devouring small businesses, Durkee Mower is a blast from the past. The exterior of the factory looks much like it has since 1920, the year Allan Durkee and Fred Mower began making Fluff from a recipe invented three years earlier by Archibald Queery (in Somerville Massachusets).

Fluff represents an essence of America that is precious and increasingly rare. Only in a free country can you have a food product that has absolutely no nutritional value (pure, empty, carbohydrates). It's soul purpose is just to make things sweeter. What's not to love?
